17 Edition Updates

IEE Wiring Regulations: 17th Edition

BS7671 is the national standard for all electrical installtions undertaken in the UK. The 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations were published in January 2008 and will come into effect in July 2008.

Installations designed before July 1st 2008 can be in accordance with the 16th Edition of the wiring regulations and installed and certified to this standard after July 1st 2008. However, all designs after July 1st will have to be to the new standard and installed and certified as such.

For a quick overview of what the changes are to the 17th Edition of the wiring regulations, please download our factsheet.

If you are worried about what additional training you might have to undertake to get up to date with the 17th Edition, have a look at this simple flowchart that explains which routes are available to you.

We have also been working with other scheme providers and other industry bodies to develop a common approach to technical issues arising out of interpretation of the 17th Edition. The questions and answers arising out of these discussions can be found by following this link.

ELECSA is running a comprehensive national programme of FREE open evenings to explain the changes to contractors and how they will impact you. The local assessors are also on hand should you want to discuss aspects of assessment or any technical queries you may have. If you want to attend a short evening session that will provide you with the basics, please look at our open evening events.

Due to high demand, we are adding dates and venues all the time. If you would like to be contacted when we are next in your local area, please contact us on 0845 634 9043 or email enquiries@elecsa.co.uk with your full name and address details.
